The Origins of The Trinity Wars

Some legends are said to be true. They are said to echo throughout the ages and span across the stars. The legend you're about to hear has touched many worlds throughout our universe. The origins of this story reside in the ever-conflicted galaxy of Iris, inhabited by many different anthropomorphic species whose unity and ingenuity pushed their civilizations into deep space and beyond the stars. However, with such an extended era of peace, war was more than certain to ensue.
And so the endless Faction Wars have raged on, ravaging Iris's countless solar systems for millenia. Trillions of lives have been cast into the fires of war. Three factions, the Trinity, continue to fuel the fire. They wage their constant war over the fruit of the galaxy. Each have their own territories and resources to exploit, which have fueled the ongoing war since the beginning of the Celestial era.

The Noveran Federation: This is where our story begins. At the dawn of time, the many species of Iris evolved from their tribal origins on their homeworld of Novera, just like any other civilization. They united and constructed glorious cities. At an accelerated rate, they advanced their technology and expanded into the stars. This was the peak of their civilization, as they formed colonies on new worlds and continued to flourish throughout the galaxy.
Eventually, this coalition of species inhabited thousands of worlds spanning every corner of the galaxy. So many worlds were inhabited, in fact, that they extended past the reach of the Noveran federation. They became so spread out that it was difficult to maintain each new world they inhabited. The Federation stayed strong, however, as they continued to research technologies beyond their comprehension.

The Hydrakka Dominion: This lack of reach is how the savage Hydrakka Dominion was formed. As time went on, more and more worlds distanced themselves from the Noveran Federation. These worlds became isolated, yet self-sufficient. They united under their own government and created their own caste system, relying heavily on slave labor to construct their cities and expand their reach. A single ruler, a Matriarch, ruled over the self-proclaimed Dominion of outer planets, Hydrakka being the capital planet of their unification.
During their climb to power across the edges of the galaxy, a horrific incident occured. The Dominion's home planet of Hydrakka was obliterated by a rogue meteor. Heavily grieved by this catastrophe, the Queen addressed the legions loyal to the Dominion. She proclaimed that their God, Khamzara, was responsible for the destruction of their planet, and that he was testing their faith in him. This rallied the Hydrakka Dominion as they began rebuilding their homeworld, Old Hydrakka, piece by piece. As their territory became constricted by the Noveran Federation, they began running out of reliable planets for resources. With no other alternative, the Dominion declared war on the Federation, and slowly began their conquest further into Federation territory.

Freebooters Union: It didn't take long for the two factions to be at each others' throats. They were soon fighting over different territories and massive battles ensued. Billions of lives were lost during the early ears of the war. It was in this time that the Freebooters Union was formed. Some millions of freelance freighter pilots were contracted with either faction. They were tasked with delivering military supplies to the galaxy's fiercest warzones. Many were killed or wounded in combat, leading the formation of a union of pilots and soldiers alike who were sick of the ongoing war between the two major factions.
A small group of pirates sympathetic toward the warriors and veterans of the neverending war helped establish a homeworld for the Union. Beyond the known galaxy, in the frontier of wild space, a planet was claimed and families from all around the galaxy seceded to the Freebooters Union with the hope of escaping the conflicts arising throughout the stars.

The Iris galaxy is rich with mysteries and adventures, but is shrouded in an endless war that spans across the cosmos. We must carve our own paths through this vast story, so that our own words will echo through the ages.

The Faction Governments and Key Figures

The Noveran Federation is governed by the Noveran Council, which is comprised of elected Ambassadors from each of the Federation-controlled planets. Laws and decisions are proposed by the Ambassadors and are ultimately decided by the majority vote. The main figurehead and leader for the Noveran Federation is the Supreme Leader, who is re-selected every fifteen years.
The current Supreme Leader is William Brint. He served as an Admiral in the Federation Fleet for years, and was selected as the Supreme Leader due to his intelligence and strategic knowledge of the enemy. Brint does not believe in surrender and is prepared to do whatever it takes to defeat the Hydrakka Dominion and reclaim the lost Noveran colonies across the galaxy.

The Hydrakka Dominion has stood against the Noveran Federation for thousands of years. A long, noble bloodline has ruled the Dominion and its outlying colonies, using an iron-fisted caste system to determine who is worthy and who is weak. The lowest citizens of the Dominion are slaves, who are forced to work tirelessly on the restructuring of their planet with little to no food. The caste system maintains order among the people, as the stronger citizens are conscripted into the Dominion Armada to fight for the glory of the Matriarch.
The current Matriarch is Andromida Velarus. Her family has ruled over the Dominion for millennia. Her cruelty knows no bounds and her voice petrifies even the strongest of soldiers. She believes she is the purest of all beings, but remains adamant about leading her Dominion to victory. She will remain in power until her death, with her eldest offspring inheriting the throne just as it has been for thousands of years.

The Freebooters Union is the underdog of the three primary factions. More of a ragtag alliance than an actual fighting force, the Union is not expected to last very long. Many of the members are freelance pilots, pirates and mercenaries, and feuds are often sparked within the Union. Civil wars are constantly fought between different gangs in the faction and the leaders struggle to maintain order throughout the systems they control. The mob bosses of the Freebooters Union operate under a rough chain of command, with them ultimately reporting to the Crimelord.
The current Crimlord is Zara Vayle, who is a privateer that runs a massive weapon smuggling ring. The weapons travel in and out of occupied solar systems, right under the Federation and Dominion's noses. Her grit, determination and quick-thinking make her the ideal leader for the Freebooters Union. If anyone can truly unite the scum of the galaxy, it's her.

The History of Iris and Its Inhabitants

The Lore of Iris 40d28ff7-ff86-4118-a3d8-00cd0d69bf88_zpsmkcfmldg

Iris is a distant galaxy not unlike our own, though it is much older. Its planets have had millions of years to develop into proper habitats. Obviously not all of them can support life, however the number of habitable planets seem infinite. This is what's unique about Iris. With all of these developed planets that were birthed, a great diversity of species were born with them. With humans absent from the galaxy, other species evolved and developed in their place. Their minds and bodies developed to better suit their way of life, eventually surpassing our own levels of knowledge.

The Noveran Federation originates, obviously, from the planet Novera. The planet was the ideal habitat for life, leading the animals to evolve and grow into sentient beings. As civilizations formed and grew, the Noveran populace went through the expected ages of technology. From indigenous tribes, to a middle-aged era with metal swords and armor, and finally to a more modernized, unified way of living. Most disease, famine, and war were eliminated. The golden age of technology and exploration was finally reached, and the Noverans took to the reaches of space to expand and find new homes among the stars.

The Federation flourished for nearly eight hundred years, colonizing and unifying most of known space. New hybrids of species were born after such an extended period of diversity and unification. Everything was going so well, but the Federation eventually grew too arrogant. Their colonies began extending further and further without the proper installment of order. They were forced to recede back towards the center of the galaxy to maintain order. Many of the colonies were left to fend for themselves in the outter reaches of space.

Feeling abandoned and cast aside, these isolated colonies unified under their own banner. They started out small and scattered, but over time they grew into a very large threat. The leader of this new faction came forward, proclaiming that the newly formed Hydrakka Dominion would bring proper order and balance to the galaxy, something they believed the Federation had failed to do. The Hydrakka Dominion quickly began conquering Federation planets and colonies, creeping ever closer to the galactic center. The Federation stood strong, however, and continued to hold the Dominion back. This galactic war has raged on for nearly three-thousand years now.

About five-hundred years ago, a concentrated alliance of pilots, pirates, mercenaries, smugglers, and explorers united under a different cause. Many of them were veterans of the galactic war. Sick of the constant bloodshed, these citizens abandoned the Federation and Dominion to start their own faction, the Freebooters Union. This union wouldn't be tied down by laws or jurisdictions. Union members claimed to be ultimately free from all regulations the other two factions had in place. The Federation and Dominion obviously didn't like this idea, and both declared war on the Union. It was very difficult to track Freebooters Union members, however, as they often blended in on most occupied planets.

The Emergence of Anomalites

Throught the galaxy's history, certain individuals have been described as having enhanced, or even magic-like abilities. These anomalies could alter gravity, molecules, or even conjure elements entirely. Eventually taking the name Anomalites, these special individuals have been nothing more than rare occurrences throughout history until more recently. An unusual number of children over the past three hundred years have been born with such abilities, though it is still a very rare gift. It is believed that the many suns in the Iris galaxy emit a strange level of radiation that effects and mutates the individual's DNA, in turn giving them unnatural abilities. From controlling gravity to manifesting fire out of thin air, the range of such abilities are seemingly endless. Anomalites are universally shunned, however, and the use of these powers are strictly forbidden. Most Anomalites don't even realize they have powers and usually discover them during very stressful or emotional moments in their lives. It should be noted that Anomalites have certain limits, and too much use of their abilities could result in death.
